Reasons to Love the Fall Season

I love how the month of November is able to resurface the humble reflection and gratitude that come with the Thanksgiving holiday. I know that many people like to jump straight into the Christmas mindset after Halloween passes, but I still think there is plenty of time left after October to enjoy all the fun autumnal festivities. Depending on where you live, not all of the trees have lost their pretty foliage, and the weather is still tolerable but crisp enough to wear cozy sweaters and scarves.

Since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I thought it’d be appropriate and fun to list of few reasons as to why I’m thankful for the fall season:

1. The scenic train rides

Since the start of my first college semester away, I’ve taken the Amtrak twice to travel back home to New Jersey. The first time I rode the train was for fall break in October. This time, I have had the opportunity to return home for a full week during Thanksgiving break (yay!). Even though the train rides last a good 7 hours and a half, it’s nice to take in some lovely views of the surrounding scenery including the fall-speckled trees, sloping hills and meadows, and mellow creeks and rivers.

2. The warm, cooked food

Nothing warms up my body more efficiently than a meal of warm, cooked food. At my college dining hall, there’s always plenty of roasted potatoes, steamed veggies, and cooked quinoa to go around. I’ve also been enjoying the delicious vegan soup that is Butternut Bisque by the brand, Pacific. The 17 oz container is enough for two servings, and only requires a minute and a half to heat up in the microwave. It’s creamy, sweet, and also a tad bit savory, so I definitely recommend the soup to anyone who also loves squash!

3. The slower pace

As the leaves wither and the trees become bare, nature’s vitality starts to fade. It’s hard not to imitate it by slowing down and taking more time to rest as the days get darker. Even though less daylight may often interfere with our motivation to be productive during this time of year, it’s important to remember that taking a rejuvenating breather every now and then can be beneficial for our health!

4. The reminder to reflect and come together

Along with the reminder to rest, I also appreciate the reminder to be thankful and count your blessings. Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday in that it brings families and friends together to reflect and share a bountiful meal. Some of the best memories are made while gathered around the table where funny stories are told and laughter is shared.

5. The time off!

Getting an excused break from work or school because of the Thanksgiving holiday is always precious. I’m happy that I’m able to spend a week at home with my family before catching up with important school responsibilities again. It won’t be too long till Christmas break as well!

What are you thankful for this November? I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!
