Happy Thanksgiving!

The day has finally arrived - a day where we can all take a break from the world and enjoy it through elaborate eating and family-bonding.
That may sound too stereotypical, but what else is Thanksgiving but a time for over-stuffing ourselves around our family and friends? When I think of the holiday, the first thing that comes to mind is food. And then I imagine my family gathered around the table. The whole day is spent in relaxation.
Am I making your mouth water yet?!
Alright, well maybe Thanksgiving is more than just that! What makes it one of my favorite holidays is the sense of reflection and gratefulness that comes upon us while we eat. It's important to reserve some time for thinking about all the wonderful things we are given in our lives. Whether it's the car we are able to drive, the credit card in our wallet, the boots on our feet, the comfy blanket on our bed, the friends we get to make memories with, or the family we are a part of, we should always be thankful for something.

The day before, my Communications teacher asked us to jot down some things that we were thankful for. One half of our list would be the big, meaningful things while the other half would be the little, out-of-the-ordinary things that make our everyday lives more enjoyable. This is what my list looked like:

The Big Things
  • My family
  • America - land of the free
  • All of the opportunities I've been given
  • The faith I was raised with
  • The food I am able to eat
  • Clean water
  • My ability to sing
  • My family's good health
  • My determination

The Little Things
  • 4-wheel drive in my truck
  • The inventor of the piano (Bartolomeo Cristofori)
  • The inventor of the car's gasoline engine (Carl Benz)
  • mango trees
  • candles
  • socks
  • chapstick
  • cocoa butter

I encourage all of you to write down this kind of list. I promise it won't take much time or effort! In fact, I guarantee it will boost your mood and put you in the right mindset for the holiday season. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and Happy Thanksgiving!

I also made a feel-good, instrumental video of Thanksgiving dinner with my family. Enjoy!
